How To Make Bath Bombs

Materials:

1 cup of Baking Soda

½ cup of Citric Acid

½ cup of bath salts such as Epsom salts, Dead Sea Salt, Sonoma Sea Salt

Additives such as crushed rosemary, peppermint leaves, green tea, lavender lemon balm if desired

Up to 1 Tablespoon of Skin Safe Fragrance, if you are using Essential Oil, use a teaspoon or less

A few drops of either Liquid Glycerin Dye or Water Based Colorant

A small spray bottle of witch hazel, or combination of witch hazel and water

9 - Two-part plastic bath bomb mold, or plastic soap mold of your choice

How To Make Bath Bombs:

1.Add your baking soda, citric acid, and any salts to a bowl and whisk together well.Bure sure to break up any clumps.Additives can also be added at this stage.

2.Once your dry ingredients are well mixed and no clumps are remaining, add your fragrance oil.Whisk well and distribute the fragrance as much as possible. It will be clumpy, so you need to just keep whisking.

3.Add a few drops of dye.It is really important not to go overboard with dye.Too much dye can stain the skin, bath tub, towels, etc.Less is more! You won’t see any effect of the dye.Think about the effect of your color in water. Some people have aversions to bathing in weird color water, like red.

4.When everything is blended, start spraying the surface with the witch hazel/water bottle as you continue to whisk.Do not over spray, the goal is to get it to a clumpy stage without activating the fizz.If your dry ingredients start to fizz, you are adding to much liquid. You want to keep gently misting, while mixing. You want to get to the stage that you can pick it up and squeeze and have it hold its shape and it looks and feels like wet sand.

5.Once you are to the stage where it holds its shape, fill each side of your mold pretty firmly, add a little extra bath bomb material to the center to keep it all together, and press the mold together. To avoid any imperfections in your bath bomb, make sure to direct pressure to the edges of the mold rather than the center.Don’t forget to line up the eyelets of each side when molding.(If mold is packed too firmly it can make it difficult to open and close the packaging).

6.Continue until all bath bombs are made.

7.Let bath bombs harden and dry for 24-48 hours.Test at 24 hours. If they feel soft, let harden and dry for another 24 hours before unmolding.Package in organza bags.
