Prewaxed and tabbed candle wicks make wicking your candles a breeze - especially if you're pouring a lot of candles at one time! Untabbed, unwaxed zinc core wicking material is also available for you to make your own wicks, especially if you need a predetermined length.
This wick has a cotton outer braid surrounding a thin filament of zinc. Zinc core wick produces the coolest flame and offers the most rigidity of all cored wick, providing support during pouring and burning. Concern over trace elements of lead has resulted in the Consumer Product Safety Commission defining a lead cored wick to be one containing greater than .06% lead by weight in the metal. Zinc wire has a maximum level of lead impurities of .004%, well below the standard.
Zinc core wicks are recommended for candles that require a rigid wick, such as containers, votives, small novelty candles, and floaters. The candles indicated for each size wick are merely guidelines. The ROC (rate of consumption) is the amount of wax consumed in ounces per hour in a standardized test. The rate may vary with different waxes. Test burning is always recommended to determine the proper wick for your wax formula and container.
